Bone Grafting for Implants

Even patients with bone loss can enjoy the many benefits of dental implants with bone grafting!

The health of your teeth and your facial appearance depends on the strength and availability of supporting bone. By partnering with the Liberty Dental Group team in Brentwood, California, we can prevent devastating bone loss by preserving your teeth! However, should you lose a tooth, it is essential to replace it promptly. Bone loss (“resorption”) begins immediately, and its effects are rapid, with up to 25% of bone being lost within a year post-extraction. Fortunately, we can build up this supportive tissue with grafting.

The process

Grafting may be necessary to prepare the treatment site for dental implant surgery. Implants function as replacement tooth roots. They depend on the supporting bone in the jaw. If insufficient bone is present in the jaw, the implant cannot heal properly. Implants must join the bone. So, they can then best support the replacement teeth that connect to them. Our dentists, Drs Mike Molosky and Emily Molosky, apply their considerable and exacting planning to perform bone grafting promptly – sometimes during the same appointment as the dental extraction. The procedure is straightforward and well-tolerated.

Many different materials may be applied (including autologous tissue taken from your own body) and used to build up the thin bone at the implant site. With the introduction of implants to the natural tissues, there is a healing period as the graft joins the surrounding bone. It can take several months for this process to occur; however, once it is complete, your implants have a healthy bony foundation, and in turn, the implant can best support the replacement teeth attached to it. That provides the ultimate stability, comfort, and satisfaction with implant crowns, bridges, and dentures.

Thanks to modern techniques and even dental implant designs, patients who formerly were precluded from implant-supported crowns, bridges, and dentures can now benefit from this “gold standard” form of tooth replacement. You, too, can take advantage of all the benefits! Start the process today.
